Excellence,
Education and Employment
Established in 1993, American College Dublin (ACD) was
a non-profit educational trust by Lynn University, Boca
Raton, Florida, USA. ACD has recently been awarded full
charitable status in Ireland. The College is situated
on Merrion Square in 3 beautifully restored Geogian
houses including the former home of Oscar Wilde.
ACD encompasses all aspects of students' academic,
personal and professional development by concentrating
particularly on excellence, education and employment.
The College's objective is to provide quality international
education for students from all over the world by combining
the excellent traditions of the American and Irish educational
systems. Its mission is to help students benefit fully
from their third level studies by providing a learning
environment in which they can develop their intellectual,
social and professional skills.
As one of the leading private third level educational
institutions in Dublin, the College is having a truly
international student body whereby students have the
opportunities to develop an in-depth understanding of,
and respect for, the many different cultures which they
will encounter during their working lives. The College
community is comprised of students from all over the
world, including the Americans, the Middle East, China,
India, Japan, Europe, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Africa,
the Pacific Rim and Pakistan. This international environment
creates a vibrant and challenging context in which to
study and learn. The age profile of the student body
is also quite diverse, as ACD welcomes transfer and
mature students.

Why Choose ACD
Continuous Assessment
During the semester, extensive continuous assessment
is used to ensure progress is maintained throughout.
Class sizes are small which allows for greater interaction
between students and lecturers. Students are encouraged
to question and to discuss issues which leads to a more
dynamic learning experience.
Core Curriculum
The range of courses ACD provides reflects both current
and future career requirements. Each course strives
to combine a balance between theoretical content and
practical, professional skills.
All students must study the Core Curriculum. A range
of broad based liberal arts subjects, designed to provide
students with a foundation in general knowledge and
an appreciation of people-related areas. Practical skills
such as writing, public speaking, computers and foreign
languages are also part of the core curriculum. This
ensures that all ACD graduates are not just specialists
in their specific areas, but have a well-rounded education
which will help them adapt to the multi-disciplinary
requirements of modern careers.
Internship
Most courses offered at ACD require an internship. This
offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience
in the areas they have been studying. This practical
initiation into the workplace may be critical when they
are looking for their first job. ACD has developed links
with a wide range of Irish and international companies
and organisations, and actively assists students to
find suitable internships through the help of the Placement
Officer.
Study in Florida
ACD students may enhance their international educational
experience by studying for one or more terms at Lynn
University in Florida. Both institutions have an articulation
agreement which means that grades obtained at Lynn are
automatically transferred to ACD once the student returns.
International internships and summer employment can
also be organised in Florida.
