History of
Malaysia
Malaysia has long been a meeting place for travelers and
traders from the West and the East since early 14th century
because of its strategic position surrounded by the South
China Sea and the Indian Ocean. Its Colorful history has
been an interaction of local powers with foreign influences.
The peninsula became an important fulcrum of trade
and commerce as early as in the fifteenth century. Due
to the frequent visits of Arabian traders, Islamic teachings
were prevailing and became a major influence. The Malaya
Peninsula went under the reign of the Dutch and the
British. The stirrings of nationalism led Malaysia to
its constitutional and political independence in 1957.
Today, Malaysia is an active member of the Association
of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Malaysia has made
significant contributions to the advancements and developments
in the region and the world at large.
