Introduction
The Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) is one of
the best tertiary institutes in New Zealand and is located
in one of the warmest parts of the country, sunny Hawke’s
Bay. Students are attracted not only by the Institute’s
reputation, but by the regions’ favourable climate
and lifestyle. The institute offers an exceptional learning
environment, with a well designed, pleasantly landscaped
and spacious campus, and a large range of services available
to students.
At EIT Hawke’s Bay, students will be ensured
of personal attention, and will not become a "faceless
number in the crowd" like one might at many of
the larger educational institutions around the country.
In the year 2001, EIT had over 9,200 students enrolled.
Class sizes are small, such that it will be easier for
students to make friends with fellow students and teachers.
While many students in Hawke's Bay are from New Zealand,
many students from overseas have been increasingly attracted
to the institute. Each year EIT welcomes over 250 international
students from more than 30 countries, who study English
language and academic programmes.
The institute boasts of strong linkages with industry
and employers and quality programmes at certificate,
diploma and degree level, while New Zealand graduates
are often rated by employers worldwide as having excellent
training and good work ethics.

The Student Amenities
Complex. |
Student Amenities Complex
In July 1997 the Student Amenities Complex was completed.
This complex provides our students with a spacious and
modern environment in which to meet, relax and unwind
after or between classes.
Students Association
The Students' Association exists primarily as an advocate
of student issues and representative to the various
councils and boards of EIT Hawke's Bay. The Association
promotes the social, cultural, recreational and intellectual
interests and welfare of students on campus.
Health Services
General medical services are available at the EIT Hawke's
Bay Health Centre, where a doctor, nurses and a physiotherapist
are available for new and ongoing medical complaints,
treatment of injuries and medical advice.
Bookshop
The Otatara Bookshop caters for students’ stationery
and textbook needs. Students can send faxes for a small
charge. The shop also carries stamps, phone cards and
a range of cards and small gift items.
Public Transport
The Taradale campus is situated half way between Napier
and Hastings. Buses to and from both cities stop outside
the campus throughout the day.
