The Certificate in English Programme will:
- increase the student’s language proficiency
in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and grammar

- prepare students for individual, vocational, social
and/or further study goals.
teach English for everyday life.
- familiarise students with New Zealand cultural
expectations.
- develop the students’ study skills.
Included in the programme:
- special interest topic classes
- ESOL Language Learning Unit (i.e., Self Access Centre)
- Multimedia Language Learning Suite (i.e., Language
Laboratory)
- Computer Laboratory
Certificate in Advanced English
Programme
This programme will:
- improve the students’ language proficiency
and academic skills for successful tertiary study.
- familiarise students with New Zealand tertiary
institutions and study expectations
- prepare students for the IELTS examination
Included in the programme:
- self-directed learning projects and reports
- IELTS examination preparation
- ESOL Language Learning Unit (i.e., Self Access Centre)
- Multimedia Language Learning Suite (i.e., Language
Laboratory)
- Computer Laboratory
Students who successfully complete
this programme will not require an IELTS score for entry
to Waikato Institute of Technology programmes.
Learn IT in English
From February 2002, Waikato Institute of Technology
will offer Certificate in Computing and Information
Technology (CCIT) and Certificate in Advanced English
(CAE) as two concurrent programmes over one academic
year.
Successful students will graduate with:
- Certificate in Computing and Information Technology
- PC Driver’s License
- Certificate in Advanced English
- and will be able to enroll in the Bachelor of Information
Technology Programme at the Waikato Institute of Technology.
