English Requirement
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test
- Standard level Overall grade of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the subtests.
- Higher level: Overall grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the subtests.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Written English (TWE) or Essay Rating
- Computer based version
- Standard level (undergraduate) Score of 230, plus 4 in essay rating (TWE).
- Standard level (postgraduate) Score of 230, plus 5 in essay rating (TWE).
- Higher level: Score of 238, plus 5 in essay rating (TWE).
- Paper based version
- Standard level (undergraduate) Score of 570, plus 4 in essay rating (TWE).
- Standard level (postgraduate) Score of 570, plus 5 in essay rating (TWE).
- Higher level: Score of 585, plus 5 in essay rating (TWE).
Standard level is required for all courses in Science, Technology and IT.
Higher level is required for all courses in Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Social Work and Law.
Undergraduate Programmes
For all degree-level courses, you will normally need to be at least 18 years old
on 30 September of the year of entry.
A minimum of two and in some cases three GCE A-level passes in appopriate
subjects, together with at least two supporting GCSE passes. No subject
may be counted at both GCSE and A-level and you will need to offer five subjects in all.
Completed Brunel Foundation Course.
If you are studying two subjects as a joint honours programme, you will
need to obtain qualifications equivalent to the higher of the two subjects
subject requirements. You will, in addition, have to attain any particular
requirements for each of the subjects.
Graduate Programmes
Normally, a good honours undergraduate first degree is required for admission
to Brunel postgraduate programmes eg. Second Class Honours.
Applicants with first degrees in other areas or a combination of non-degree
qualifications and suitable experience will be considered on an individual basis.
