the city ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the
year.
Edinburgh is a compact city, which means you can get
around easily and cheaply. It is the home of over 700
pubs from the interesting old pubs of the Grassmarket
to the newer cafes and bars around the city and means
that deciding where to relax after class is one problem
every student can enjoy solving.
Edinburgh invests in the arts and you’ll find
a wide variety of cultural events on throughout the
year. There are also many theatres, museums and galleries
and over 20 cinemas around the city.
Edinburgh's Telford College
Named after Thomas Telford the great Scottish civil
engineer, Edinburgh's Telford College was established
in 1968. Today the College enjoys an excellent reputation
for training and education in the Arts, Sciences and
Information Technology, as well as in more traditional
fields such as Building, Engineering and Catering.
The College operates from three campuses in North Edinburgh
and welcomes some 21000 students each year, making it
one of Europe's largest centres of vocational education.
Remarkably, after gaining a qualification from the College,
91% of all students are in employment or enter higher
education.
The mission of Edinburgh's Telford College is to be
accessible, responsive and flexible and to achieve excellence.
It aims to meet the education and training needs of
individuals, industry and the wider community. In pursuit
of these goals, it will work in partnership with a wide
range of local, national and international organisations.

Cheaper Way to Complete University Degree
On completing the Higher National (HN) courses, students
can move directly into employment or onto higher education.
Edinburgh's Telford College has a number of agreements
with universities, which will accepts succesful HN students
into second or third year of a
degree course. As studying at th College costs
less than at university, students can complete their
university degree in the same time more cheaply.
Various Study Options
Telford is a lively, modern Further Education College
with a diverse and exciting range of vocational courses.
Telford offera a wide range of courses covering everything
from Stonemasonry to Business.
The College has many routes into studying the subject
of your choice and gaining the qualifications you want.
You do not have to have formal qualifications or be
used to studying to start on one of the courses. There
are also many options of how and when you study, such
as full time, part time, evening,
Saturday and open learning courses.
Open Learning Courses
Open learning is a flexible
way students can study without
having to come into college for classes. The
courses are designed to allow you to study in your own
time, at a place and pace to suit your lifestyle.
Edinburgh’s Telford College was one of the first
colleges in Britain to offer open learning courses and
now has one of the largest and most successful programmes
in the country.
Students joining the course will receive learning materials
which have been designed for their course plus the name
of their tutor. The tutor will guide them throughout
the course and give them individual feedback on their
progress by phone, letter or increasingly by e-mail.
A growing number of our courses are delivered and supported
on-line. This allows students to contact their tutor,
and to take part in conference groups and chat groups
with other students.
