Liverpool John Moors University (LJMU) is a unique place of learning shaped by the vibrant past, present and future of Liverpool, the 2008 European Capital of Culture. One of the largest universities in the UK, their educational pedigree stretches back to 1825. Building upon this impressive educational heritage they have developed into one of the most progressive and exciting educational institutions in the UK.

With over 20 areas of international and national research excellence, you can be confident that whatever degree you study at LJMU, your course will be informed by the latest research and development in the area. LJMU's teaching facilities often replicate 'world of work' environments so that you can gain the key skills and experience relevant to your chosen career.

As an international student, you will want a degree that will help you forge a successful professional career. LJMU's new approach to higher education will guarantee this and more, as you will be able to graduate with an employer-validated skills certificate in addition to your LJMU degree.

LJMU offers a wide variety of well-equipped information technology suites, interactive media facilities, PCs and Apple Macs across the University campus. The Learning Resource Centres are packed with over 600 computers, giving you access to the internet and our free email system 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you live in a LJMU-approved Halls of Residence and have your own computer, you can subscribe to school's network service, giving you access to the University's computer network, and the internet, from the comfort of your own room. While internet access is free, there may be a small set-up charge depending on your accommodation provider.

The City of Liverpool

Liverpool has its own distinctive style. The city has more galleries and museums than any other city outside London and boasts outstanding architecture around virtually every corner. The shops are great too, with boutiques and designer outlets as well as independent labels and high street stores.

You'll never be stuck for somewhere to eat thanks to an increasing number of restaurants and cafes, catering for every taste and budget. Plus, with over 250 city centre bars, pubs and clubs, you won't have to work too hard to have a great night out.

Liverpool loves football but the city also hosts world class rugby league, horse racing, tennis, sailing and golf competitions. If you love nature, you'll be spoilt for choice. Five national parks are only a couple of hours drive away, and Liverpool John Lennon Airport boasts excellent links with the rest of the UK and Europe. All this plus over 2000 acres of parkland within the city itself.

Liverpool's love of music embraces much more than just the Fab Four, through events such as Africa Oye, Europe's largest African music festival. With such a warm and hospitable culture - Liverpool is the perfect 24-hour study city.
